The Altered Egos formed in the fall of 2021 in Pittsburgh PA and are a group of otherwise employed professionals who all have an affinity and desire to play music. The band enjoys playing a mix of music across genres and decades, leaning towards music with more than 3 chords, rich harmonies, and catchy hooks. The band has covered everything from Surf Rock to Metallica, to Adele and is also writing and performing originals.
Eric’s musical journey began when he accidentally enrolled in Music Theory in college where he met his future wife. Upon graduation, he went on active duty in the Army where he played in a number of garage bands in between deployments. After a hiatus, Eric returned to the guitar and live performance and was later recruited to play in a work band. Eric plays guitar and harmonica, and (reluctantly) sings. His most recent accomplishment is writing original songs that showcase the musical talent of the band.
Having grown up in a musical family, Ann played clarinet and bass clarinet all the way through high school and was in both marching and stage band. Concurrently, Ann also took piano, bass, and voice lessons and has performed as a solo act as well as with other musicians. Ann currently sings lead vocals and writes original music.
Rebecca Pietrusinski joined the Altered Egos primarily on keys with vocals and sax. Recently the guitar was added to the mix after being inspired to learn by watching the skill and technique of her fellow bandmates. Rebecca is new to performing in a band but started her music journey with piano lessons when she was six years old. Music has been an important part of her journey playing and singing in various choirs, groups, and shows. Rebecca works in financial services technology by day and enjoys the fun-filled adventures of her large and loud family frequently heard cheering on the Altered Egos.
Paul Furiga plays bass for the Altered Egos but originally thought he’d don a tux and strap on a tuba as a classical musician. Paul’s first love is still music and spends his professional days in his own firm WordWrite. His home is filled with instruments he’s learned to play or is tinkering with, from his dad’s old accordion (the answer to the question: What’s sexier than a tuba?) to trombone, ukulele, and so on. During what some might consider a mid-life crisis a few years ago, he was playing bass in three bands at once: country, rock, and R&B. He’s settled down to one band, for now, Altered Egos. And he just may strap on the tuba for a future gig, so stay tuned …
Dan grew up playing piano, but he pivoted into playing drums after a few years; from high school onward, it became his obsession. Initially inspired by punk bands like Green Day and Descendents, he spent hours playing along to his favorite songs and albums attempting to replicate the drummers on the records, and also played in his school's jazz band up until graduating from high school. Later, he was inspired by drummers in the realm of math rock and progressive music such as Chon, The Mars Volta, and Periphery, which he still finds inspiration in today. Today, he takes joy playing almost anything, and also plays drums in the local Pittsburgh bands Steel Mill Rising and Main Street Detour.
